As we look ahead to the upcoming curriculum changes in the UK, it’s clear there’s a strong shift toward modernising education to better align with the world our students are growing into.
At Everybody Counts, we welcome these developments. Our proven approach to maths mastery, skills-based learning, and low-stress assessments already reflects many of the key changes now being introduced, making us perfectly placed to support the next generation of young learners.
One of the most notable updates is the increased emphasis on skills-based learning. An approach that resonates deeply with us at Everybody Counts. Our commitment to Math Mastery reflects this direction, focusing not only on building strong foundational skills but also on applying them in real-world contexts.
Another key change is the reduced emphasis on high-stakes exams. Traditionally, these assessments have placed significant pressure on both students and educators, often prioritising memorisation over meaningful learning.
Our new Head of Education, Marco Macdonald, shares our excitement for what’s ahead:
“At Everybody Counts, we believe that assessment should be a tool for understanding each student’s progress and needs, not just a measure of final outcomes. That’s why we’ve focused on continuous, lower-stress assessment models that support learning and promote well-being. We’re excited to see how the new UK curriculum embraces these ideas, and we remain committed to adapting in ways that best support our young learners”.
Life Skills to Empower Young Learners
The upcoming curriculum changes place a stronger focus on equipping students with essential life skills, fostering creativity, and promoting well-being. All areas where Everybody Counts is already making a meaningful difference at the primary level.
Future-Ready Skills
The renewed emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving reflects a global shift in education, preparing students to thrive in an ever-changing world. At Everybody Counts, we champion these skills through a Maths Mastery approach. Encouraging children to think deeply, reason effectively and apply mathematical understanding to real-world situations.
Engagement and Creativity
With a reduced focus on memorisation, the new curriculum supports deeper, more meaningful learning experiences.
Ceri Henderson, Chief Revenue Officer, explains:
“Our lessons at Everybody Counts are designed to give students a full understanding of mathematical concepts. How and why they work, followed by creative and exploratory activities that let children apply and demonstrate their knowledge in engaging, practical ways”.
Holistic Education
By broadening subject focus and introducing continuous, lower-stress assessments, the new curriculum aims to nurture well-rounded, resilient learners. Everybody Counts supports this through our adaptive assessment tools. This empowers teachers to create assessments tailored to their pupils’ individual needs, prioritising understanding, well-being and growth over standardised testing pressures.

How Everybody Counts Brings Maths to Life in Primary Schools
Critical thinking, problem-solving, and digital literacy are at the heart of the new UK curriculum changes, and it’s a direction we couldn’t be more excited about! Primary schools across the UK will soon see an even stronger focus on these vital skills, not just memorising facts, but truly understanding and applying learning.
Kerry Rose, Education Content and Insights Coordinator, commented,
“At Everybody Counts, we’ve long championed skills-based learning, helping students not just know maths but apply it confidently in real-world situations”
The Everybody Counts platform delivers a Maths Mastery approach across every lesson. With this approach, Primary-aged children are taught three key areas: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Digital Literacy. Let’s take a closer look.
Critical Thinking
Students are taught to analyse and interpret mathematical problems and to provide appropriate mathematical reasoning and understanding of a problem.
Problem-Solving
Students are taught to problem solve at various difficulty levels. This helps to develop not only mathematical procedures and knowledge but also their critical thinking skills in mathematics and other subject areas.

Building Digital Literacy Through Every Lesson
Everybody Counts is an online learning platform that encourages students to use digital devices to learn and develop mathematical skills. On the platform, students will get to explore different ways to display mathematical problems and explore how maths can be linked to other subjects and real-world topics.
Big topics for little learners!
The new Primary curriculum will introduce a stronger focus on sustainability, financial literacy, and be less about stressful exams by introducing continuous, meaningful learning.
At Everybody Counts, we’re excited to support this broader learning through practical maths activities that connect with life beyond the classroom. We are already in alignment with this approach. With the provision of sustainable learning, targeting key subject areas including data and statistics, percentages, ratios and unit conversions.
Financial Literacy is also covered. We have lessons on money that look at monetary values, addition and subtraction. These lessons serve as the building blocks for further monetary and financial mathematics.
With the Reduced Emphasis on Exams and a gradual move towards continuous assessment. Everybody Counts provides an adaptive assessment platform where teachers can create assessments on whatever elements of their liking. This suits the needs of teachers’ individual teaching styles and differing school policies that each school may have. The assessment platform offers the ability to test individual modules or multiple modules. Plus, the option to select which students will receive the assessment based on ability levels or new student testing.
At Everybody Counts, we’re proud to already be in alignment with the new curriculum’s vision. We look forward to continuing to empower young learners across the UK with the skills, confidence and creativity they’ll need to thrive.
